Why This Project Exists

The problem walked through my front door.

Health literacy isn't an abstract policy issue in my family. It's every appointment, every prescription label, every discharge summary written at a reading level and in a language my parents were never given a fair chance to understand. Nearly 9 in 10 adults in the U.S. struggle with health literacy in some form, and the burden falls heaviest on immigrant communities navigating the system in a second or third language.

LAVI is my answer: a companion app that explains diagnoses in plain language, breaks down medication instructions visually, and helps users find providers who speak their language, in Haitian Creole, Spanish, or English, whichever feels like home.

"I watched my parents leave doctor's appointments with more questions than they arrived with. A designer who has lived this problem has a responsibility to solve it."
