Why this project exists

They nodded along to words they didn't understand, walked out with paperwork they couldn't read, and ended up in a cycle of tests and costs that nobody ever explained. Language selection is the first screen, always
Originally planned as a settings feature. Research showed 80% of limited-English-proficient patients rely on family members to interpret. Language had to be the entry point, not a preference buried in a menu.

Amber replaces red for urgency states
Usability testing found red urgency bands caused anxiety before users read a word. 3 of 5 participants expressed heightened fear. Switching to amber with a calm opener sentence reduced distress while preserving urgency.

Camera scan is the primary CTA, search is secondary
Testing found users typed medication names rather than scanning because the camera icon was too small. After making the scan button full-width and primary, medication scan task completion improved from 80% to 100%.

WhatsApp share on every result screen
74% of research participants said WhatsApp groups are their first resource for health questions. All 5 usability test participants praised the share button unprompted. Community sharing is LAVI's primary distribution mechanism.
